Miss FQ: How old are you?
Jodahn: 20
Where are you from?
Whangarei originally but now I live in Kerikeri.
What is your dream and why do you want to Make It Happen?
I want to own a holistic performing arts center in Whangarei, to create a life for kids where they can discover their passions. There will be a system that helps the youth of my home town discover what they want in life and help them start their path to the future that they want. It will be a place where they can be themselves and show what they are passionate about and perform to their friends and families. A place where they learn about life, nutrition, their culture, their strengths and weaknesses and how to deal with everyday life.
What inspired this dream?
I think it was just the way I was brought up, by a really lovely family. I’m a big performer, and I felt like in highschool that was something that was missing. How to live life, after you leave high school, and stuff like that. So I think that’s what powered it, but most importantly my passion for dancing is what made it want to be a reality.
Who is somebody in the performing arts industry that really inspires you?
Parris Goebel, because she was a highschool drop out and she didn’t really know what she wanted to do but she is now winning world titles all over the world. And I love her drive as well, and the way she teaches people. She comes across as really genuine and I want to be like that. I’m not there yet! But that’s the kind of where I want to go. The same way that she is going.
Tell me, if you can describe it, how it feels to perform…
I think it is the best way to express emotion. I find it really hard to talk sometimes, so dancing expresses things that words can’t. So when you’re actually on stage and performing, it feels like a really selfless moment where it is all about you. Everyone is looking at you and they are understanding what you are doing, and why you are doing it. So it really comes across differently than words do.
Who is the ultimate musician you’d love to backup dance for?
J Lo, definitely J Lo! I would say Beyoncé as well. But in terms of the kind of the genre that I like, I would say J Lo because she started out as a dancer, so I think dancing for her would be really amazing. She just seems like such a lovely person to work for.
What sort of music are you into?
Oh definitely hip hop and pop, but not just hiphop. I am the kind of person that loves all kinds of music; I can dance to anything. If you play it, I like it, then I will dance to it. But I would say the genre that I am leaning more towards would be hip hop, but I’m not really a rap girl.
Cool. If you could get on a plane tomorrow and go anywhere, where would you jet-set to?
I would probably say Los Angeles, because it has such an awesome dancing culture. Or New York. I would just want to be wherever the lights are. I’m really into that.
